Response to Current Disasters

Churches respond to cries of people affected by disasters

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is working in coordination with annual conferences, ERTs, disaster response coordinators, and volunteers to provide support and relief to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Here are 5 things you can do now.

Please pray for those whose lives have been impacted by Irma. Please also pray for Early Response Teams, disaster coordinators, and the many volunteers who are working tirelessly to provide relief. When we pray, the concerns that we lift up become more important to us and stay closer to our hearts.

Make relief kits. Download the packing list and shipping label at umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies.

Give to UMCOR’s relief and recovery efforts: Domestic Disaster Response Advance #901670. You can make a donation to UMCOR through our church. Write UMCOR in the memo on your check or offering envelop. An electronic offering option is available HERE.
Donate only those items requested. (To keep relief supplies in stock, give to Material Resources Advance #901440 at umcor.org/donate.)

Please wait for an invitation to volunteer. Our church will inform you when volunteer opportunities will be open to us.

“O God, confronting catastrophic storms for two weeks in a row,we feel a heavy heart in us, but it doesn’t keep us from approaching you with our earnest prayers. A heavy heart can never limit the power of prayer. Hear our prayers for those who tremble in fear and anxiety, prayers for people whose lives are affected by the recent disasters in Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean. We pray for fortitude for them to repair the damage and rebuild their lives. Give us the strength and willingness to be your agents in responding to the disasters. With Jesus, in his name, we pray, amen.”
